333 km | -30°C | 25 Days | World Record Attempt Redefining Impossible

In December 2025, Wellspect sponsored a world-record sit-ski expedition to the South Pole

In December 2025, adaptive adventurer Darren Edwards and his team set out on an extraordinary challenge: an attempt to establish a new world record for the longest sit-ski expedition toward the South Pole.

The expedition aimed to cover 333 kilometers in one of the harshest environments on Earth, with temperatures dropping below –30°C. Despite extensive preparation, determination, and resilience in the field, the team ultimately made the decision to end the expedition earlier than planned, putting people and safety first.

While the South Pole was not reached under their own power, the journey achieved something far greater than distance or records. The expedition pushed into uncharted territory for adaptive polar travel and challenged long-held assumptions about what individuals living with disabilities can take on in extreme environments.

This was more than an expedition—it was a mission to redefine perceptions of disability and explore the true boundaries between ambition and possibility. Darren, who sustained a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2016 following a climbing accident, continues to change the narrative around disability through endurance-based challenges that inspire, empower, and create lasting impact.

Even in failure, the expedition stood for courage, accountability, and the willingness to explore the edge of what is possible.
